The Year is 2130
Humans have long abandoned planet Earth after mass-consumption led to an exhaustion of all its natural resources. The world is slowly recovering and showing signs of new life.
A series of discarded objects are blossoming with LEGO® civilizations; each one inspired by the Relic they now call home.
RELICS: A New World Rises explores an imagined future, one that might not be as far removed from reality as we think.
LEGO® Catalyst Printshop
In a world left long abandoned by humanity and exhausted of its resources, few creative outlets survive. At UC Santa Barbara this LEGO® Catalyst printshop has been revived in order that creativity will not die. The future world is devoid of the creative arts, which have been outlawed by the ruling totalitarian ILLITERATI. The Catalyst crew fight for creativity against the encroaching darkness to deliver poetry and art to the world.
Inspired by the international exhibition RELICS: A New World Rises, the brainchild of 2020 Australian LEGO® Masters winners Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler, UC Santa Barbara’s The Catalyst Printshop installation was designed and built by LEGO® engineer extraordinaire Ashley Evans (UCSB class of ’25) alongside The Catalyst Editorial Team 2024-25.
