A little sunshine might save me,
Been told I’m looking a bit pale lately,
Cut from something cold and threadbare,
Dead on my feet, dreadful, to say the least—sorry, it’s just I’ve had my
Eyes held open to the eclipse recently, [looked Evil in its fucked-up,
Flayed-open face], and—and I’ve got crow’s feet, suppose I shouldn’t
Glare so much, suppose I should expect the guillotine, not pearly gates, cause
Heaven set sail ages ago for its own reprieve, sandy shores of an
Island yet untainted by our reach, girls without smile lines awaiting
Judgement by a saviour who marches first in a procession of
Kings holding its leash, who preach divine karma to avoid Earthly justice,
Launching their wars, sitting on the sidelines, and I’m writing odes to lost lovers,
My imagined millenia, because how pretty a word, how pretty a thought is time
Not to be had, ages collapsing, when ten years ago I might’ve
Opened my wrists over a failing grade, and now I’ve got straight A’s but
[Pedophiles run the fucking country] and anyone meant to do anything is
Quietly cutting up their dinner, not caring or caring in identical passivity,
Reaching for the salt or selling you rejuvenating injections—
Shoot me up, [or just shoot me, why don’t you?] you ve already slaughtered every
Thing promised to us in primary school, stolen the visions of
Unity, usurped our futures, unbuilt our freedom brick by brick; you, the fat and fed
Vultures, who eat the people’s prosperity, pay for it in peace at the drive-through
Window; tell your chauffeur to step on the gas, leave us all in the dust of your
Xenial—[no], menial—no, [fucking evil]—care, leave us to contend with the
Years we won’t have, or fear to see—[oh, I’m looking peaky?] sorry, I stopped taking my
Zinc pills because, [fuck, what’s the point?]—sorry, because the government says my problem is actually low vitamin D.
