The ocean before me is full
Of ghosts and blood,
Good intentions and burdened hearts,
Inevitabilities and lost dreams.

                      The ship is sinking
The liquid is rushing to my feet
And while I know this, I spend time
With a bucket, throwing the water overboard

Just in case I can save this home.

I have never learned
How to leave behind a ruined thing.
I learned that from my sister
Who learned it from my mother.

But not everything can be saved.
                       Sometimes, the tide turns
And there is no escaping it.
But I try to paddle back to the distant shore

Just in case I can make it home.

You once said
that I desire to be torn apart
And that you couldn’t be with someone
So corrupted by their own thoughts.

I could have moved on,
It was the right thing to do.
But for the right person, you do the wrong things
So I hold on to every memory,

Just in case you come back home.
