Could you capture me?
Codify an intricate existence?
My soul must have tasted
how it was to have you
once,
maybe twice.
If the mind forgets, the body must remember
what feeling feels like.
You would have me bound on paper, grasped
in curves and shapes,
etched in ink.
I’m not positive I can chisel a body
in perfect definition.
Touching is a melodic salve,
but always incomplete.
You burned me in your flesh,
affection buried in your heart.
We are
embroiled in
cumulative asphyxiation.
The solemn one has wept
too long without its skin.
Does hurting hurt?
Can you long for something you haven’t had?
So, so long it’s been.
Long for me then! Don’t leave me here.
If I must be without a conduit
then you must be
in anguish.
All that comes in between.
Hand slipping, water dripping.
I am suffering to suffer.
