  • Art “Caught Steeling” by Leilo Franco (she/her)

Steel,
Painted black and painted over again.
Sprayed teal and sprayed red,
I still see your rust.
Your color changes,
Or your place in the yard,
Moving from corner to corner
Or even standing apart.
Covered with a wet towel,
Burning in the sun,
Your grated seat marks my legs,
Your top rail indents my back.
I carry these marks with me,
A reminder of you.
And if I had to choose a place to rest,
I would choose your steel.
Not for comfort, but for memory
